Everyone in the world drinks water every day. Why does it actually matter though? Although water is a source of hydration, it is severely important for keeping your body healthy and functional. All bodily systems need water to function, as about 60% of the body is made out of water.
The body can use water to do many functions. With water, the body can regulate its temperature, moisten tissues, protect organs, carry nutrients around the body, flush out waste, and dissolve minerals. On average, people lose about 12 cups of water every day through breathing and sweating. In general, men need about 12 cups of water daily and women need 9 cups. However, exercise, high altitude, and alcohol intake are factors that cause a larger water intake.
The water that humans drink is absorbed through the intestines, and then it circulates through the body. They also deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells and take out waste products through urination. The body also goes through homeostasis with water. The body perspires when it is overheated, which releases water from the body.
Overall, water is very important for the body. It controls a significant part of bodily functions, which is why it is important to stay hydrated every day.
